At dinner with a guy from consulting company that I'm considering joining - or at least working for a while as a contractor to see whether I want to join them.  They're a US-based company with an industry focus (chemicals, manufacturing, automotive), helping clients identify and implement operational improvements ( Read more... )

Well, his follow up question was about how the Chinese clients react to a woman at the head of the team. So it was reasonable, in a way.

I have to try not to think about it too much, because it makes me tired. He was self-aware enough to acknowledge that their team is entirely middle-aged white guys (his words). And be curious about how it works to be outside that set.

But at another layer, the underlying question is, "Are you going to be a problem?" Which, you know, perpetuation of the status quo, much?
