I loved this. Not enough Alice and Emily fic out there. I am reluctant to even bring modern-day Torchwood reflections into the feedback but I was struck a little by Alice's devotion to Emily mirroring the devotion Jack's team eventually have for him later.

Thank you! I think they're pretty intriguing characters, actually...I mean...BDSM lesbians of Torchwood? How awesome is that??

But yes, I think there's a lot of mirroring there, with Alice and Emily, Jack and his team. I think Torchwood is for desperate people.

I'm so pleased you wrote this. I crave more Alice and Emily and you have delivered the good stuff. I love how uncompromising they are and how uncompromisingly you've written them.

It's interesting to think of this experience as Jack's training in Torchwood recruitment because you can see the same implacable resolve in his recruitment of Tosh and Gwen.

Thank you! :) I sort of thought of that as I wrote it...(not before, mind you...lol) How Jack would come to think of Torchwood in the same way that Emily and Alice do, eventually.

Well... valid point. But I dunno... historical TW just doesn't hold much interest for me except as little vignettes that illustrate something about Jack. This is more like that, despite its length, so I like it. Jack's far from my only TW character, as you know, but... I dunno. Just doesn't grab me usually. Maybe because I don't connect with them on screen at all? Just not my thing.
But like I said, I like this!
