I've made a few, just because I got a nice idea in my head that I wanted to try out. I guess it's popular right now so everyone's doing it. That's kinda what got me into trying it out. ^_^;; I don't mind the more simple icons myself, the flashy ones can just be cool because they're.....flashy.;P
