I am deeply distraught. Everything Is Illuminated ended terribly. If Foer's writing at all reflects his outlook on life, his overwhelming philosophies must be grossly pessimisitc. This is why most of my reading tends toward the escapist. But then, I'm shallow like that.

Oh, escapist literature of what kind? Ethan Frome? ha. Please, dear, say no. I suppose that's not that dandy, though it is thoroughly romanticized...could be used as a morbid's escape. I really don't know why that book in particular came to mind...
Anyways, could you recommend any good summer reading? I'm about 20 pages to the end of Candide, which was a quite a little gita!
...yeah, and I actually do recommend Everything is Illuminated, if you're not too terribly affected by others' suicide. Parts are pretty darn amazing.

So when do you head out to the land of gnarly trees? I'm hoping to go out for the reunion in July. Should be beautifully lush, with all of the rain we've had.
