PS I Love You (rant)

Dec 20, 2007 15:47

I've just seen a trailer for PS I Love You (I know, I know, what was I thinking, even watching it) and right now I want to stick pins in my eyes. I knew it would be terrible (considering the source material) but why, oh why could they not at least get an Irish actor to play the male lead. The guy they got, Gerald Butler, is Scottish and his so-called Irish accent is absolutely atrocious - I mean, has he even met an Irish person? One reviewer said he sounded like he was auditioning for a part as a leprechaun in Finian's Rainbow. I probably shouldn't get so annoyed about it, but why does Hollywood insist on painting this sickly, stupid picture of Ireland and the Irish. It pisses me off!
PS. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (aka John Winchester) is also in it but I don't know if he's supposed to be Irish or not. I hope for his sake he's not because I've yet to hear an American actor get an Irish accent right.
So hey, Hollywood producers - here's a novel idea - if a part requires an Irish accent - get a f-----g Irish actor. We do have them over here - along with all the f-----g leprechauns
(end of rant)
