Star Trek Into Dumbness - Oh the Stupidity

Last Friday I went to see "Star Trek into Darkness" and have now made my peace with the reboot universe. For me it seemed all the discrepancies arose not from the appearance of Nero and his killing of Daddy Kirk, but far earlier which resulted in the crew being roughly the same age instead of the 20 or so year difference between McCoy and Chekhov,

I think the next movie (if there is one) will make or break the new series. If it's an original premise with just a smattering of references to TOS it might work for me. The main problem is that there's 4 to 5 years between movies so before you know it the new young cast will no longer be young.

However J. J. Abrams is now involved with the new Star Wars movies and being a fan of SW and not ST he might just not return to the ST franchise perhaps giving someone else (a true Trekker) a chance. All we can do is wait and see.

We're getting to a point where TVs are almost as large as movie screens in small theaters. Soon the only movies that need a huge screen will be the 3D/Imax ones full of special effects and little else.

Legend has it that the suits hated both Spock and Number One from "The Cage" so when Roddenberry got the go ahead for a second pilot he decided to fight for Spock and marry the actress who played Number One (though he didn't get around to marrying her until after the series was over). I think that's why I never got into ST:TNG because I'd hoped he'd remember the original and have a female first officer but no we got the kid, the man and the sage (aka Wesley, Riker and Picard). I know they added many female officers in positions of authority in the later series but the spell was broken. I am a TOSTrekkie and not a fan of the other series or the reboot
