Dorothy Gilman RIP

I found out the other day that one of my favorite authors, Dorothy Gilman, has passed on. She created that wonderful character Mrs Emily Pollifax who, late in life, joined the CIA and so often was able to save the day when the James Bond types failed. And yes, The Tightrope Walker... I need to re-read that, but it's in the storage locker. *sigh*

Annoying isn't it. She wrote some great books and I miss being able to look forward to a new one from her. At least I have some old ones I can re-read and others to track down.

Oh no! I hadn't heard about that!

I really need to try the Mrs. Polifax books... I absolutely adored Clairvoyant Countess, which I discovered when I was 11 years old and, oddly, never read anything else by her.

The early books in the series were the best ones IMO (and the movies don't do Mrs P justice). Try my favorites too.

I remember reading it--or remember wanting to read it. There's a sequel to Clairvoyant Countess, as well, but it was a lot of rehashing what had already been done.

I thought the same thing. I'm now becoming really curious about her earlier works (pre-Mrs P) as so often they are better.
