Can I have one, just one fic where instead of Tony breaking up with Pepper because he has hot hot chemistry with Steve and her being okay with that or pushed off to the side, Tony breaks up with Steve because he realizes Pepper really is the one for him and he and Steve go back to just being bros? Of course I can't, because that would get in the ( Read more... )

*sneaks in and shuts the door*

See ... I avoid the Avengers fandom, because ... I just don't GET Tony/Steve AT ALL. (I can even see a little foundation for Tony / Bruce, but even there ...) It's probably because Steve/Peggy is one of the few M/F ships I just love, and the sassy Tony/Pepper is adorable as well. (Talking just movies here, I don't know the comics at all.)

I usually don't say much though, because a) I've certainly shipped things that made other people eyeroll and b) it's so prevalent (in fandom as a whole as well as my f-list) that I don't want to slam anyone's OTP. (I know how it's felt when people have slammed mine.)

But, tbh, it's nice to grumble and grouse a little with someone else who shares the same view. :p

I think Steve/Tony is shipped so much because Tony is a fandom darling for his snark and Steve hits the genteel hottie spot. Tony's also a womanizer with experience while Steve is fairly inexperienced. Ruffalo's Bruce hasn't had enough screentime, Coulson is too old for the teen girl writers and Clint either gets the Loki vote for the mindfuck there.

I just feel so awkward saying anything about it, because all my ship pings for Avengers are het and I don't want to be called out as a homophobe even though I have so many different slash pairings in different fandoms.

.. and as for Tony and Steve .. I can see them having a beer and talking about women. I can see Tony helping Steve adjust to modern life. I can see Tony going all out and digging up everything on Peggy's life and putting together a fancy multimedia presentation or something, thinking he's helping).

But buttsex and Troo Wub and casting Pepper aside? Eh, not really.

ETA: Damn you. This is giving me a vague plot bunny for an Avengers drawerfic.

So much <3 for this. I kind of started shipping Tony/Pepper maybe halfway into the first Iron Man, was THRILLED to discover they made it canon when I finally got around to watching the second one, but then akatonbo had seen further ahead in the Marvelverse movies than I had, and had been reading the fanfic before seeing the movies, and was all about Tony/Steve. So I finally got around to watching The Avengers... last week? Week before? I forget. But... I just don't see Tony/Steve at all. I could get behind Tony/Bruce, sorta, if I didn't like Tony/Pepper so darned much. But even if I didn't, I just don't get why Tony/Steve is apparently the slash pairing of choice here. O_o ( ... )

" (The other main reason: just by what I've seen of the fandom, it treats Loki just like HP fandom treated Draco"

I wasn't in HP fandom at all (spent far too many years reading the books to the kids) - so would you feel comfortable filling me in? (via PM is okay if you'd prefer.) What did HP do with Draco?

Draco in leather pants! Basically he became the fandom darling and everything bad he did was because of his upbringing. They woobie-d him and turned him into a lovable bad boy instead of a self-absorbed snobby bully.

*nods* I thought it might be something like that.

(There were so many ships in HP fandom that made me go O.o that ... well, it's another fandom I've stayed away from.)
