Overlooked Manga Festival Special Event!

No new Smithson this week; Brian has a family emergency to deal with. He did, however, put up a sweet sketch of Darryl O'Doyle, everyone's favorite commissured Irish poet. Well, favorite of everyone except the characters plotting to kill him, I guess.

There is, however, a new installment of The Chronicles of William Bazillion, wherein Wiener ( Read more... )

And thanks to all the folks who sent their Vonnegut tribute suggestions to The Morning Show, including Carol in Blue Earth, whose favorite quote from The Sirens of Titan is this: Just imagine that your Daddy is the smartest man who ever lived on Earth, and he knows everything there is to find out, and he is exactly right about everything, and he can prove he is right about everything.

Having actually read small parts of three of these (in which my head exploded for all of them, and not in a good way), I am on the edge of my seat wondering what could possibly be EVEN WORSE.

Cannot wait!

I, for one, am on the edge of my seat, hoping Mark Trail gets mauled horribly in a case of mistaken identity.

Jason, you will get blacklisted from the industry. Naw, just kidding. I like seeing people promote series, but I think it's more fun to see people talk about how bad some series are. I haven't gotten a chance (nor will I take it now...probably) to read most of these series, but I have to whole-heartedly agree with what you said about Asamiya and his works. I always wanted to read it, but I could only get bits and parts of the series here and there. When I finally found all the volumes last year, I was horribly disappointed in them. Plot? There is a plot? What is the point of the series? Arg! I'm just happy I happened to find the volumes used. D=

This particular choice was a little arbitrary on my part, as in some ways both IRONCAT and HURRICANE GIRLS are more interesting than CENTRAL CITY (and equally bad). CENTRAL CITY is basically just derivative and unfinished. However, at least in its American presentation, it also has a bit of that indy-comics "Look how cool my comic is going to be -- wait, I will never do another issue" sad deflated pomposity. (I'm one to talk with my recent drawing track record ( ... )

My web-fu knows no bounds!

Oh, and seeing that Sequential Tart cover quote on Dark Angel just makes it's inclusion here all the more amusing.

You're not foolish to pass up DARK ANGEL. If you want to read an Asamiya comic, JUNK: RECORD OF THE LAST HERO and STEAM DETECTIVES are both pretty good. Even SILENT MOBIUS is better than DARK ANGEL as it actually manages to pull itself together and have an ending. Whew!

Nadesico is kind of a wreck, but intermittently interesting. And then a wreck again. It's probably about as good as SILENT MOBIUS, or a little worse.
