Oh man, that's great! Maybe it's just the colorspace of your camera and my monitor and whatever but I would be perfectly fine with that color of countertop and backsplash at this point. Although black quarry stone would look even nicer. (But whatever you do, avoid that crappy black-with-iridescent-flecks Chinese granite that seems to be showing up in every kitchen these days. That stuff is godawful.)

I agree, current color looks okay to me, too. If not the current color, some flavor of orange or red would be fine. It looks nice!

Yeah, black, black and white, or grey would look nice too. I don't get the point of caring or paying for granite when there are so many nice options out there.

Yeah, the thing is that the Chinese granite is relatively cheap and it's trendy for some reason, but I think it just looks terrible. My kitchen has that on its counters and I'm planning on remodeling soon mostly to get rid of it. Also apparently it's high in radon, so yay for that.

California quarry stone is just as cheap (at least in California) and looks so much better, so that's what I'm probably going to go with. I was originally going to do poured concrete but I found out that costs a lot more and has a bunch of long-term disadvantages.

I just read this blog ( http://www.uglyducklinghouse.com/2011/02/i-painted-my-kitchen-countertops.html )about a cheap solution to old countertops that might work for you guys! It's a temporary solution, but one that might be interesting to try for $20. :)

Now that you've changed the other colors in the kitchen I think the countertop is warm and cheery instead of it's previous WTF sort of feeling. Depending on the shape that it's in I'd keep it and accessorize to match. :)
