I've been here since 2001, and I'd just as soon not have to uproot, either. However, I wanted to gather everyone's names elsewhere in case the decision to leave comes from LJ getting shut down somehow. I doubt it would get that bad, but better to have it in my back pocket.
I've been here for 8 or more years. I have friends on here that I've known for about that long. I am not going to give that up easily. LJ would have to completely go BOOM! for me to leave. Like, not exist at all anymore.
Exactly. It's because of LJ that I have every relationship that I have.
The thing is, the people doing the DDoS crap are trying to get LJ shut down. If everybody leaves then LJ is gone. Right now, the attacks are happening to drive the bloggers to smaller venues where it's easier to target individual bloggers and shut them up. LJ is powerful because it's so large. It's a political issue but so many people are being short sighted and jumping ship. It's walking directly into their hands and tying themselves up.
I hadn't heard that yet, so I found that interesting. I have been in my own little world while the site was down anyway. I haven't been on because of the stupid headaches so I had no clue that was going on.
Either way, they aren't losing me. I couldn't imagine leaving these people.
I like DW, it's a different group for me over there. It's a lot more crafty and such. But I love my community over here too. I'm not jumping just because some stupid political issue says I should.
I have exactly 2 friends over on DW and one I booted here, LOL. DW means less than nothing to me. If I had to abandon LJ, I'd probably go with my WordPress blog over DW.
I like the concept of DW and I keep up with the DW news. They are doing a lot of interesting things, currently in coding work and cleaning up LJ's bad coding from years past.
Though part of what I love about LJ is that if I have a site that I want to keep track of via RSS, I just create a feed for it and I never have to leave LJ. I hate going to multiple sites.

Since learning of the political aim of the DDoS, well I want to ensure that LJ continues as a forum for expression of all kinds.

And now, in the aftermath of the drama, I can get her from work again...
