Every time I see those weapon I am wondering: Are those self-made? What are they made of? And are those your training weapons or do you use them for larp battles as well?
I am asking because we also started with self-made weapons but here they are usually done so they resemble real metal weapons as much as possible.
Since the ones we did didn't last that long (and our time has become more limited recently) we've caved in and bought the pro ones after a while, which look awesome - but I've never seen covers for them over here.
We occasionally make our own but mostly we order from forgedfoam.com or gorg. We don't allow plastidip (which is usually used to make them look realistic) on striking surfaces so that's why ours are more simple looking.
We recover all the weapons we purchase so that all the rangers have the same fabric on their weapon, makes it easier to spot our weapons in a pile of weapons, most of which are covered in black.
Ah, I see the difference - yours are called "full contact" and ours are called "larp weapons". Yes, you are not supposed to hit someone full force with the larp weapons although we do hit each other and I usually get bruises from it. You're still supposed to defend yourself and block blows. But I can see how a softer weapon with a fabric wrap is more gentle to the skin than latex colour. Never saw them in Germany though.
We often have bruises too, even with all the foam we use. I had one after my proving that lasted a bit over 2 weeks before it fully faded. It happens.
When I participated in a larp those with the latex outer were supposed to hit lighter than everybody else ... and they all hit light since it was tap fighting rather than the flat out beating that we do.
