If a drunk driver plows into your favorite fast food joint and thus the place is forced to close while they repair the hole in the wall and the damage done to the kitchen do you blame the fast food for not being open

In some people's defense, I'm betting not everyone saw the LJ post explaining the situation. I know I didn't see it until after I posted complaining about it and someone else linked the entry to me.
I can't speak for others, but I don't have a FB account and I never log into my Twitter account so... :/ All I had gotten was that blue strip across the top of the screen saying some LJ pages would be slow to load.
People do get cranky easily, probably part of the culture of instant gratification that society seems to have fostered.
It sucks that not everyone has the right to express themselves. Not that it always happens here, either...but at least we have the right. Our rights just get trampled on sometimes.
Of course, regarding your first point, I might just blame that fast food joint. I mean, couldn't they use a grill outside? It'd be like a barbecue...and you can plug a deep fryer into the side of a building. They have pluggy thingies everywhere, now. Just move the tables outside. :P
I know I was one who posted about blaming LJ, but I also could not even get to that link they posted to see what was going on. As far as I could see, it was acting up as it had many times when they made changes to features. Once I realized what was going on, I added an edited part to my post (at the beginning) to note that I understood why it was acting wonky. I also added that I still irrationally held LJ responsible. I know it's not rational, but I don't like how they've been acting about all the changes.
And you going back and adding in the note makes a world of difference, plus admitting that bit about irrationally holding them responsible. I will say they have some responsibility but they can't be held accountable for all of it. They do need to do a lot different. :/
I do feel that they have not handled a lot of the changes in features very well. They have not listened when people have asked for opt-in/opt-out capabilities. And since I couldn't get to the information post, I could only assume it was more changes. Once people alerted me to what had happened, I realized I should add the note to let folks know that I understood what was causing the issue but still claiming my irrational response of holding LJ somewhat responsible.
In the case of this latest attack, I'm less sympathetic than I have been in the past. I wonder if perhaps there was more they could do for security rather than all these changes that no one wanted. *shrugs* I don't know - maybe, maybe not. In the long run, I'm displeased with what it's become from what it was.
I can be angry at the drunk driver, and think that the fast food place, after having dealt with the SEVENTEENTH drunk driver plowing through its door this year, might have established better barriers.
I dig how difficult hackers are. But there are solutions that ameliorate they're going through; they just don't appear to wanna pay for them. Think Facebook doesn't get hit by hackers, too?
There's this aspect of it, but mostly I blame LJ for their radio silence on the matter. It took 64 hours (yes, sisxty-four) before there was a peep from LJ staff on the matter. They have a status page, an FB account and a Twitter account, yet for 64 hours all I saw was complaints from other users whom it didn't work for either and a deafening silence from LJ.
They'd have been better off stating up front "Sorry guys, another DDoS attack".
Yeah, and they're really doing themselves a disservice. If I had known the problem was a DDoS-attack I'd have bided my time patiently, because I'd know it wasn't their fault. Instead I got increasingly peeved that the only updates they made to their FB was to say "Profiles are now working again!" No, they are NOT, the entire SITE isn't working!

I have LJ on Twitter and they're the only one that's sent directly to my phone so when they post about problems then I get it. They also posted to FB.
But, I think the bigger problem is people just getting cranky and throwing blame around blindly before looking into the why behind the problem.
