I had been happy as a knight of the Summer.  I was in love and in favor with my Queen, and she shone brighter than any sun.  I would have done anything for her, and that was what she asked of me.  Everything.  My quest to prove my love, an exchange for peace.  She traded me to the Unseelie Court, to serve their Queen, to be their knight.

So that's what you came from.

To begin with, my original mother certainly had nothing to do with it, and no human child was exiled to the demon realm in my place. Youkai are governed by fewer rules than it seems most fairies who find their way here are.

Why were you displaced then?

I refused to die when there was an alternative.

And living among humans was the alternative.

I'm not sure I could live as an Ironsider. Even if death were the alternative.

Their world lacks...something. Ritual, perhaps. A ruling order.

The rituals linger in Japan. Weakened, but remembered.

Most of those above where we are have forgotten about the fair folk. No one leaves milk out anymore or takes care when walking in the woods.

Are you so dependent on their offerings, or is it merely a blow to your pride?

Then why be bothered by the lack?

Becoming attached those who have forgotten how to protect themselves is a fool's errand.
