One tends to expect a certain degree of competence from published books, particularly collections of academic articles. But no.

I had a similar problem with an article on Puyehue Volcano - in this case I think the problem was the language barrier, but I really wonder how the article made it past peer review and editing and into publication without the spelling, grammar, and sentence structure getting fixed.

The problem is that after all that you have to weigh how much you can trust anything the paper said. In this case, probably not much.
