Secretly, I think I hate myself

So...I've basically decided to read Twilight. Probably not the entire series, but at least the first one.

Why?

So I can tear it to shreds.

I judge so you don't have to. )

rant-tastic, psa, books, on my high horse

rosinavs has a (thankfully unopened) hardcopy. You can pop its cherry. Or take it against its will...

Can doc_smiley bring it with him when he comes by next? And will rosinavs mind if I deface it a little? Highlighting, notes in the margin, footprints on the spine where I stomped on it a bit...

Don't forget the singe marks from where you start to light it on fire.

This is all my fault, isn't it?

YES. I BLAME YOU.

That link from yesterday pretty much broke the camel's back...

If I didn't love you so much (and you weren't an ocean away) I'd find someway to make you pay for this.

I'm sure you'll still find a way to make me pay. If you didn't, I'd be disappointed.

I'd love to read your thesis when you're done. Because I couldn't come up with more of an argument than "This books blows donkey balls like a virgin on a first date."

Totally.

I don't know if it counts as 'love' per se...just like I'm not certain if I should thank kadath for sending them to me.

Check your email, luv.

Aha, I don't care if it's a bad piece of literature...I enjoy the story and the characters and the movie. Sometimes it's nice to read something just because, not to further you in anyway, but just to read.

There's a difference between books with little to no redeeming qualities (and, since most scholars would argue that's where genre fiction falls, I LOVE many of those kinds of books), and books that are honestly bad. Not bad as in: poorly written, trite, cliched, etc; but bad in the sense of 'having horrible messages and themes.' From my reading of secondary sources, that's Twilight's main problem.

That being said, I don't think I'll be able to change anyone's mind about the book. I'm not even going to try. What I want to do is bring those themes to light that I find reprehensible.

It's like enjoying a giant bowl of death by chocolate. Sure, you may love it, but, at the very least, you should know the ingredients, how many calories it is, and the effect its going to have on your hips. You know what I mean?

So, enjoy away, and don't let an old grinch like me stop you.
