Thought for the day

India is a country of approximately a billion people, 3x the size of the US. The country is relatively modernized, and a majority of its residents speak English and likely have internet access.

Here's a fairly simple question (taken from a discussion with a friend who can identify themselves here if they so choose): How many furry fans do you ( Read more... )

Hmmm. I dunno if I agree with the first statement. I've been to India. Even in the population centers like Delhi internet access is limited to the "elite." The majority do not have internet access and definitely do not speak english. Most people still live on only a couple dollars a day.

I think I may have met maybe one or two furries that have indian ancestry, but i don't know of any who were born and raised in India.

Urrrrrrrrrrrr, no.
India is not that modernized, not that many people speak English, comparatively-speaking, and I'm not positive that Internet is that widespread.

That said, the answer to your question is: none.
It takes more than speaking English and having Interner access to make a furry.
Upbringing and social environment play important factors.
Indian society doesn't strike me as the kind of environment likely to spawn furries.
I mean, let's look at my native France. You know how many furries there are in France?
Somewhere around one hundred. That's it.
France is SRS BZNS and there's not much room for furries.

I can't think of any anthropomorphic-themed movies coming from Bollywood.

You missed the other part. The majority do not speak english.

Only 10.66% speak english, although due to sheer mass India is only second to the US in english speakers.

And there's maybe 100 million users of the internet in India, a vast majority of which are likely English speakers, given that the internet users would be the ones who have the money, caste and ability to get online- It may follow that they also speak English.

The United States has about 200 million internet users, but we have tens of thousands of furs. Given the subset of the Indian population, you'd expect someone there to be on board the furry fan train- even the Indians who are working abroad (who probably speak English and more than likely use the internet) don't seem interested in the fandom.

Methinks you vastly overstate the case... India has no western style telecommunications outside the biggest cities, and they would certainly not be available to the equivalent of the furry demographic over there - in the sense that only the successful young elite can take such things for granted, and (from experience with working with many of them) they are far too successful to fit the furry demographic (the people who emerge from the technical schools are not artistically inclined and don't have low self-esteem as many western furries do).

Most of the place is not remotely modernised. Also, interestingly, there is a huge cultural resistance to having 'excess' clothes, into which category owning a fursuit would certainly fall.
