I can just imagine all the cards talking away to themselves, wishing that the frogs were better conversationalists. And I loved Fawkes eating the kitten - it was just the right amount of grotesque. Thanks for writing this for me.

As soon as I thought about writing this, all I could think of was Fawkes eating the kitten, and I had to do it. The Umbridge kind of snuck in there. She wasn't originally going to be there at all, but I can see her as an obsessive sort of admirer, bordering on stalker. And it's kind of funny to think of her hating Dumbledore so much in book five not so much because of the Ministry but because OMG HE FED MY KITTEN TO HIS BIRD! THAT MONSTER!!!! HE SHOULD BE PUNISHED...

LOL! I think it helped that for the most part, he's in a 'passive-listener' role. By the time he makes a sound, the reader has accepted he's a 'part' of the conversation, even though he hasn't spoken.
