Wonderful! I really like this idea, more because I like the afterlife theme than anything, but also because Remus's sadness is so real. Wonderfully written :)
I think when Remus steps through that veil he doesn't really know for sure if there's a structured afterlife, but he thinks a small chance at being reunited is better than none. And honestly, I don't really think he cares. I think he feels that being dead has got to be better than an interminable future alone.
Oh my god, that was beautiful. You know, I often wondered what would have happened, if someone else held Harry back. This is exactly the scenario I came up with.
I actually think that I would've done the same. After all, Remus lost him not only once - no, he lost him twice.
And yes, I agree, Remus and angst works well together.

That was the scenarion I wanted to work with. I had to look over canon really closely, and find out what all the others were doing to choose the right person. As it turns out, Kingsley was the only other person still conscious and close enough. Tonks and Moody had been knocked out (though Moody revives enough to crawl to Tonks in the minutes afterwards) and Dumbledore is across the room, and probably not strong enough to hold him back.
Kingsley is mentioned as being nearby only moments beforehand, battling Rookwood. He takes up the fight with Bellatrix when Sirius falls, then falls himself and Dumbledore faces off with Bellatrix (who runs). Kingsley is mentioned earlier as battling two Death Eaters at once, so he's obviously skilled. I just gave him two more to fight, while holding Harry back from the archway (possibly in a headlock, he's a practical man).
I felt it was a very believable scenario, knowing what we know about Remus. How long can someone really just 'exist' and 'survive' in the more tragic of circumstances?
