Y'all know I'm not one to be all like, "Well, according to So-and-so, [insert arbitrary rule of life]", especially when it comes to matters of style. I seek advice, I take tips to heart, but mostly I trust my instincts and take my cues from the unbearably fabulous. No white after Labor Day? No mixing shades? No heels with shorts? Pshaw! I care so much about your thoughts on What Not to Wear, which is a terrible show. I became so fucking angry at one particular episode that I nearly threw a shoe at the television, which for my circle of friends is like, the ultimate expression of frustration with what is on your screen (my buddy Lee started it when he hurled a loafer at the movie theater screen during a showing of Moulin Rouge, and it kind of stuck). I've never watched it again!

I should care less about arbitrary fashion rules like white after Labor Day! I will attempt to do so! But black and brown, even with Doc Hammer's permission, I don't know, dude. That's tough.

I feel like throwing articles of clothing is an appropriate response to that show. My mom and sister freaking love it, which troubles me deeply. Perhaps I will attempt to distill my rage into a coherent critique.

The black/brown thing, I think, is one of those things that works when it's done right. For me, though, it's like my instincts tell me it looks good, but I have this internalized resistance to putting those colors together.

Having Doc's permission is kind of like having a friend say, "Yes, you can totally eat that bowl of ice cream you want so bad". It validates what I already know is a good decision.

To be fair, though, I feel like Doc's very existence validates many of my style choices.
