I love the idea of Jack hearing stories about Gallifrey when he was ickle. And not just because the idea of ickle Jack is cute. I just adore the idea of it as a legend, living on.

I remember when I first got in to Doctor Who fanfic during Nine's series and a lot of fics went on about how noone had heard of Gallifrey or the Time Lords and because it had been destroyed in a Time War it had now never existed - which made sense to me and didn't. I prefer Gallifrey as a legend too; not just the Time Lords, but the actual planet itself.

If Whoverse has taught us nothing else, surely it has taught us that there is always something to fairy tales and myths, no?
