I want my MTV!!

Thanks for posting this. I too, was an early watcher of MTV. I remember discovering Duran Duran, The Cure, DepecheMode and many more. My musical taste was certainly influenced by MTV and 120 Minutes & I thank God for that! I would watch it any time I could. I remember watching the MTV Video Music Awards at my grandparents house in 1984 (I was 14 at the time) when Madonna rolled around on the stage. I will never forget the look of horror on my grandparents and their friends faces. LOL

OMG! I forgot all about Night Flight! I watched that all the time too and Friday Night Videos. Ahhh the memories. :)

MTV is a joke these days. I don't even think they show videos anymore. Oh well.

Can I link to your post in my journal?? This is so well said...I want to share it. :)

I discovered our cable company carried MTV during Spring Break of my 8th grade year - which would have been spring of 1983. I had the tv on 24/7 that week and about drove my parents insane. I was afraid the tv was going to melt, after I touched it accidentally and felt how hot it was from constant use.

MTV had a HUGE influence on my musical tastes, because the radio stations around here at the time sucked. There is no way I would have been exposed to some of the acts that I was, if not for MTV.

We turned it on briefly last night, to see what they were showing. **sigh** I miss MY MTV!

What's scarier and sadder about what MTV has become today is that maybe it really does reflect today's youth culture. Who care about nothing and take their music as it's spoon fed to them. :( Remember when MTV was about the rebellious nature of youth?

And yes, I used to stay up all night to watch the videos on TBS *L*

Well kids, back when I was your age I remember when MTV used to play MUSIC. You are right though, it is all about sex in one form or another these days. Back THEN it was still about sex but not so much in your face about it. I miss the days of waiting to see who was coming out with what new video. I wish someone would grow some stones and put the MUSIC back in MTV.

I wish MTV would have been more like what it used to. I wasnt able to grow up with a music channel like that, instead I got stuck with all the crap thats on now. Its not fair damnit!
