I am sorry that this happened, and I'm especially sorry due to the all-encompassing scope of it - it gets you professionally, personally, financially, even maternally. May the days to come bring peace and healing to you.
I didn't really get to it in the main post, but... I was so looking forward to Cait living with us. We painted Judah's old room purple for her. Bash even liked her, and he is generally a Most Indifferent Cat. Michael was calling me her maybe-stepmom. The loss of Caitlin from my life hurts too.

What a miserable way to start the year.
But, I do need to say that maybe a therapist isn't a bad idea. Or maybe a support group?
It seems like you have gotten yourself into a negative pattern and maybe it's time you try to look at that with the help of a professional instead of just on your own or with the biased point of view of friends or SO's.
Please think about it. Sometimes self-care means admitting you need professional help too.

Well, what I'm doing for now is breaking the pattern by not getting involved with anyone else. Adam and I are taking this time to refocus and make plans that don't rely upon anyone but the two of us, and I'll be doing a lot of planning for how I want my life to be going and really analyzing all the red flags I chose to ignore.
