National Invisible Chronic Illness Week

Sep 10, 2007 12:46

This is apparently National Invisible Chronic Illness Week.

Right, then. Let's not be invisible.

Got an invisible chronic illness? Post about it in comments. Show the world you're here.

Hi. I'm 'song. (Hi, 'song!) I have lots of little things* wrong with me, and a few big things - namely, epilepsy and fibromyalgia. My temporal lobe and nervous system are pretty fucked.

But you wouldn't know it to look at me. I don't use a wheelchair or a cane. I don't limp unless I'm really exhausted. I can't work a day job and I can't drive, but sitting on the train or hanging out at the coffeeshop, I look just like everyone else.

You wouldn't know it to look at me. But this is what an epileptic looks like. This is what someone with fibromyalgia looks like.

I am in pain every single day. I live with the risk of electrical storms in my brain.

But I look just like you.

(Except that here I have a silly hat. You may not.)

Your turn.

Be seen.

* EDIT: The little things, little only in comparison to the Big Things: brachymetatarsia, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, torn disk (L5S1), IBS, prone to gastric & duodenal ulcers, asthma, heart problems (PVCs and supraventricular tachycardia), tendonitis, migraines...
