Rape Kit

Sep 21, 2006 23:31

In my entry about the rape, I don't touch much upon the rape kit - the taking of evidence. I don't touch much on the emotional impact of any of it. But in that post, I focus mostly on the act itself.

What I wrote about it is under the cut, and I'm going to write more about it, also under the cut.

So don't click this if it would trigger you. )

That's what has stuck with me, too, though mostly my treatment at the hands of the cops -- but that was over 30 years ago, and one would like to think that attitudes might have changed somewhat. I've had issues with ERs ever since then, actually; I freaked out when I had to go to the ER for the enormous splinter in my foot last November. That's what makes me cry.

I've told you that story, I think. I don't think I mentioned that my sister and I never again rode our bikes after dark.

I wish I could give you a hug. I wish that every time I read your story. I wish I could go back in time & hug the me-that-was (even though mine was different, not rape). *sigh*

I don't want to just say "hugs" or some such, although certainly it calls for hugs.

I wish I could give this account to the SOAR therapists to use...

Oh, nicely said.

Yes. I read this whole thing. It isn't easy to read. I'm not glad you have anything to write about this... but I'm glad it's there to be read.
