What Now?

In the near future, I will pay off my mortgage, substantially lowering my need for a steady income. This leads to the questions: why work, and what now? I also feel I need to quit my job within the next six months to avoid becoming a cynical ass again ( Read more... )

Just an FYI, my brother left UofW two months into his term when he was 19. Due to some very heavy life circumstances, he just stopped going to class and never withdrew and ended up having to pay all the tuition and got failing marks in all his classes. When he was 25 he just went in and talked to them about what had been going on in his life 6 years earlier (had a daughter, got married, got divorced, etc) and they basically wiped out his record. He's on his way to med school so I think you'd have no problem.

Thanks for the info. I haven't decided anything much, but it is good to know that there is a chance something like that might be able to erased from my transcript.

The other option I might pursue is to skip the official route of applying to audit a course and just ask an instructor if I can sit in on their class for interests sake.

I've heard that the same is possible at the U of M through the Student Advocacy office. You would probably have to provide a written statement as well as possibly pleading your case to a board. But they would support you through the process.

Not sure what direction I'm going to be taking, but good to know there are possibilities.

I quit my job and I’m still a cynical ass, haha.

When I had more money than I needed I bought Copwatch a computer.

Gender studies, yes! Not saying you’re the target of that post, but the description appeals to me.

I was wondering how copwatch got such a fancy machine.

I bookmarked that page when someone first linked to privilege denying dude because I liked the precision with which the case for mens studies is made. Unfortunately, the term men's studies is also being used as a synonym for anti-feminism by some men, as referenced in the comments of your post.

Ree and Bri are building a homestead just outside Sudbury this summer and a gang of us have discussed heading out to help. (You met Ree and Bri at the potluck - Ree was the womans studies grad doing the art project with experiential women, and Bri was pretty quiet but she's a damn good chef.) Is that something that would interest you?

Sure - sounds like something I'd be interested in. I sort of remember them. What month would that be. I like the reference to the upcoming summer as this summer.

Case mentioned August, but we're a long way off from serious planning. I'm sure Ree and Bri would be open to help whenever it comes. I'll pass along your contact info.
