"Just water is fine," Jean assured her. After what she had persuaded Bruce to drink, Jean didn't want to tempt her coffee-karma.

Jean waited for Katie to leave the main cabin before saying, "I'm not sure you understand how my power works, Mr. Wayne. Under ordinary circumstances, I only access what you want me to know. Voluntary silent-verbal communication won't reveal anything unless you chose to share it." She decided not to address the decidedly-not-
ordinary circumstances back at her office. Now that the -- well -- heat of his original reaction had died down, he was clearly pissed off. Jean couldn't completely blame him -- she understood how people valued their secrets; some of the heroes she knew had fought a war over them -- but still.

"I'm not sure what you expected when you came to see me."

"Stay out of my head."

He repeats, as if having not heard a word she's just said. Tone impenetrable, expression the same. Except he isn't, is he? A fact she reminded him of all too easily.

It was just too easy. That's what scares him. He hadn't even known how to fight back before she was inside his head taking what was most valuable.

With deliberation he continues to read his paper, finishing the article before the newspaper gets placed on the seat beside him.

"She doesn't want to be an X-Man - I gave my word I'd make that clear to you."

"You don't like my power and you don't like my organization," Jean said flatly. "It begs the question why you'd go to the trouble to come find me, out of everybody in the whole world."

She bit her lip and looked out the window. "For the record,I don't give a shit what you do in your spare time. But it's nothing to be ashamed of, you know."

Waiting was hard and Sally was sick and tired of doing just that, would be pleased when Mr. Wayne and whoever was with him finally got to the hotel. She still hadn't made up her mind if Ms. Grey accompanying him was a good thing or not. Probably a bit of both, just like everything else in this world.

So she sat on the bed, phone cradled in her hand, and stared at the doorway. Waiting.

Bruce is armed with a selection of sandwiches and muffins and fruit and his pièce de résistance - your friendly neighbourhood world eating superpowered telepath.

Don't leave home without one. She might not come in a range of styles or colours, but when the original and classic is this good - you don't need gimmicks.

He doesn't knock on the door, he calls Sally's cell.

"It's me." He says. "I'm right outside your door."

"Oh!" Sally practically jumps up, quickly making her way to the door. She peers through the small hole, making sure he really is there and takes a deep breath before pulling it open.

He looks taller in person.

"Hi." Sally's at a loss for words but steps back, holding the door open for him and--"Ms. Grey." She's not exactly thrilled but she hopes she doesn't sound annoyed either.

"Hi."

Its all she can think of as she closes the door, shutting the cell. Not sure what to make of the two adults. They brought food. Always a plus.

Sally looks tired. Tired and hungry and scared, he thinks. He remembers, vaguely, feeling that way. He remembers it in the way you remember things that feel so long ago that it's like thinking of a book you haven't read for a while.

"Roast Beef or Chicken Schnitzel?"

He holds the bag towards her. The food isn't drugged, though he had considered it, briefly, thinking of the potential issues that it could help avoid. He's a prince among men.

"Both. You look like you could do with both."

He and Jean enter and close the door behind them.

"There's a drink machine down the hall. Do you want something from that? I'm sure Jean would be happy to get it for you."
