Her first inclination is Edna somehow escaped the apartment, but as she pets the cat, she realizes it's a smaller cat and the meows are different. Orenji? Ah, that makes sense, what with his very odd teleporting ways. Gently scooping the cat back ( Read more... )

[Not something Wolfwood expected to hear today. He frowns a bit, wondering if Livio really had anything worth returning to or not. He hoped so. I mean, that's the sad thing about Gunsmoke, or whatever he called his version-most of the time? Anyone who'd come here wouldn't wanna go back.

But he manages to push that all down and speak in a thankful voice,]

... Thanks a lot. I appreciate you telling us; how long has he been gone?

True enough. Well, in a place like Gunsmoke, that's particularly obvious. If you don't fight for yourself, you'll either be dead, or wishing you were; that's just what kind of place it can end up being.

So a far cry from a top tourist destination. I guess it makes sense that's why Livio is so good at fighting too. [And Razlo... and the both of them as kids, but there's still so much left unexplained there. So much Ginia figures she doesn't want explained.]

Well, I've always said it: if you're born there, you know how to use a gun. It's a sad inevitability.

If there is, I've never heard of it; I was a nomadic sort of guy, back when I was raising money. No town was without their traumas, unfortunately. But that's just how it is when we're not meant to live on the planet in the first place.

"not meant to live on the planet in the first place." Sorry, but does that mean humans settled on that planet from elsewhere?

Thaaat's right. Earth became unlivable one way or another, so the people before me loaded house and escaped on ships. Unfortunately, something went wrong and they ended up crash-landing on the planet we're currently on.

Wow. On the other hand, it says something about the way humans can survive even in the worst of situations?

Mm, I've got to admit, our grip on life is pretty damn impressive.
