Filk: John's Song
Posting live from Pondfilk! Again! Because solomons_pond got three networks up and running so everyone can be online. And there was great rejoicing among the fen!
So. Filk.
I have been working on this SGA filk for several months. I wrote one for Rodney that was fun and silly, but I had a thought for a song for John that I just could *not* get the 3rd verse finished on. Turns out, all I really needed was hsifyppah ordering me to get it done. So, finally, here it is.

How did I reach this place?
I was a soldier destined for
Nothing but deep disgrace
I've fought in wars and I've watched men die
Friends that I'd tried to save
I never knew one day I'd find
My choice to leave no man behind
Would mean I'd have to send one to his grave
She looks at me like she thinks I can
Promises in her eyes
Grants me command, says I'm capable
Trusting me with their lives
They look to me, and I see their fear
Desperate hope there too
Facing their panic, standing tall
Choosing to trust me, one and all,
Humbled by their trust, I'll see this through
Some who were fearful
Now courage show
Some who were timid lead
All put aside individual wants
All for the greater need
Slowly my teammates became my friends
Now they're my family
Meeting each challenge that comes their way
Bravely facing each new day
