kickass. that beautiful melancholy that characterizes really good Order-era fics, with the occasional nostalgically silly (love the crossword and the pen on the forehead). the ending was fab, Remus practical and depressed and willing to just keep on sacrificing for the side of Good, and an excellent way to segue into Lupin's werewolf-undercover-operation. (frankly, I'm very glad greyback didn't actually make an appearance, as he's easily the creepiest bad guy in a long time and makes me uneasy.)

It's a marvelous kind of hurt, though. I love this, the disjointed but still flowing style. And I love your Dumbledore in this; he is so much more than is painted on the surface of the books. The power he wields, and his willingness to use whomever he must, however he must, and damn the consequences, is very frightening.
The Sirius/Remus in this is heartbreakingly tender. Real and still managing to keep some tenderness, it just makes their tragedy all the more desperate to contemplate. :)
