Need help finding a neighborhood

Is there a lower rent, somewhat disreputable neighborhood (urban decay?) of London that has back gardens? Some indication that it was once a more middle class area but has slid a bit? Perhaps alley ways between the gardens or some way to get a car in there ( Read more... )

I'm not sure about it once being more of a middle class area - probably working class, more, but Haringey might fit what you're looking for. There are very posh parts of it, Muswell Hill, Highgate and places more Westerly are considered very nice areas, but then to the East there are some of the most deprived areas in the country. If you go to GoogleMaps satellite images you'll see the terraced housing which might fit your bill around the Green Lanes area. Back gardens, but not much of a chance of getting your car in, I'm afraid. Some houses will have made provision for that though, on the ends of rows. There will definitely be some untended gardens and sheds though!

Thank you so much!!! Yes, there can be a driveway or something on the end of the row. I could do with a side street. Or maybe keep it vague.

I would go for South East London - try Telegraph Hill on google maps, I live in the area and we have back gardens, middle class decay and disrepute in spades. Similarly, New Cross has some nice houses that are crumbling, with lots of alleys and such.
