It will be difficult for you to get a job in US because:
1. the company that employs you has to pay extra taxes--a lot extra--to the US government for you as a foriegner (the company will pay less tax if they employ an American citizen),
2. there is no lack of lawyers in US,
3. (if I'm not wrong,) the law in Australia is different from the law in US, so you have to spend a year or two to study again.

A friend of mine (Singaporean) who has an NYU degree--bearing in mind that NYU being one of the better universities--couldn't find a job for the past 6 months.

That being said, if you still want to come over, you may do so since as a Singaporean, you can stay in the States for 3 months as a tourist for a holiday. In those 3 months, you can look for a job. Your first job won't be lucrative. Nor will it be a "proper" lawyer position but it will enable you to have a job visa to stay in the States.

Good luck!

since silicon valley is a high-tech place, maybe you can consider patent law?
i'm studying in california right now, and it'll definitely be a lot more difficult for non-US citizens to get a job in the states...
