I love Woolsey's uncertainty, his fears and self-directed recriminations. It's exactly how I think he'd react to being out in the middle of a battlefield. And Teyla's reassurance is precisely what I think she'd do - see that he's a bureaucrat and feeling out of his depth, and giving him the affirmation he needs.
