Definitely more Caldwell! One advantage that a virtual season has over a real season is that we aren't constrained by monetary budget or by actors' availability. So we can have Caldwell around as much as we like, unlike the real PTB. ;)
I think it'll be great to address a lot of these issues, and since we aren't constrained to a length of around 43 minutes either, stories can be delved into more deeply.
That said, to keep the realism of being what Atlantis is alive, while I think use of underused and secondary characters more is good, it should be kept at realistic levels. As much as I love the character conflict the likes of Caldwell bring to the show, if that was in there in every episode, I think it would get old very quickly...
You certainly have a point there, going over the same semi-antagonistic ground with Caldwell is very boring. I myself would love to see a little (not an overwhelming about, but a little) conflict between the Atlantis folks themselves. I think TPTB thought that they might start some Shep-Weir professional tensions but then gave it up and present a mostly harmonious exterior. They disagree sometimes, but the 'right thing' usually gets done. Certainly Hot Zone had that feel to me of professional tensions running high but that faded entirely after that episode. This isn't an 'every episode' sort of thing, but I'd like to see it come up in a few episodes.
My biggest hope is to focus on the underused main characters. Teyla and Ronon need more flavor then 'our alien buddies', etc. Sheppard, too. 'Why is he the way he is?' has always been a big question for me.
I definitely think there is plenty to be mined in the way of development for John, Teyla and Ronon - the former two especially, since Ronon, while not having lots of character development, has had more in almost two seasons than either of them have in three seasons. Especially John.
I agree that there needs to be more on the interpersonal relationship front. And more professional tension between John and Elizabeth. Decisions in SGA need more ramifications than TIIC are giving them, which makes the show quite unrealistic in my eyes.
That said, how are we getting around the 'almost killing' of Weir..?
And secondly, in what format are we writing the stories? As normal fic or script format?
We'd like to have the format as a normal fic/story format, scripts are hard to read unfortunately.
regann is going to be posting some information about what we have planned already (mostly a general arc that many fun stories we don't have specifically planned can be fit into) later today in a friends locked post. We encourage everyone to take a look at it so they can see what we have and where we would like more input. We know we can't do this alone!
The plot posts will be f-locked so 'viewers' of the season can be surprised when it eventually comes out.
Do you guys plan to use other secondary characters? I'm a big fan of Lorne's character and I thought with Sheppard & Atlantis missing, the remaining Atlantis contingent will be looking to him for leadership, especially since they don't really trust Caldwell.
There's also an opportunity here to explore Dr. Keller's character.
Have you decided what to do with Weir yet? I think she should communicate with Atlantis while she's in a coma or maybe flashback to her past, that way we can see some of her past, engage in a little character development.
regann addresses a lot of these in a f-locked post. We're trying to keep 'plot details' in the community so that people who chose to just 'watch' the season will still be surprised.
I don't think she directly addressed Lorne, but I love him! Certainly we have a lot of main cast that we want to dive into (Weir, Teyla, and Sheppard at the top of my personal list) but it's important to keep those secondary characters three dimensional as well.

3. The Athosians were found 'a new home, with their own stargate' by the Ancestors in The Return. I don't think they were happy about it but never moved back to Lantia. For a nomadic people, they sure don't like moving. I really missed the Athosians in the third season.
