An exhausted Lt. Col. John Sheppard returns to Atlantis from searching for Teyla only to find it abandoned and in darkness. He also finds that the city is no longer floating on an ocean but is resting a on a dry bed, surrounded by sand dunes. There is however one source of information available to him: the holographic image of a now elderly Dr. ( Read more... )

I've been looking forward to this episode. I love scenes that focus on John and Rodney, and now we have an episode that is mainly them. It feels like way too long since we've had this sort of pleasure.

Another cool thing about this episode, is that we learn about another alternative universe - basically one without John in it. What a difference his lack of presence made. So, that's a third awesome thing - learning how essential John is to a smooth running universe *g*

It's sad to hear everyone else's fates though - I hate finding out that they weren't in time to save Teyla, and that Michael got the baby. Sam went out in a blaze of glory, taking so many enemies with her, but I didn't like that she had to die.

Ronon's story was amazing, too. It seemed very in character for him, and I really enjoyed his interaction with Todd. Loved that they almost stabbed each other, but they both stopped just shy of it. Of course, he had to die too.

It seemed like Woolsey back slid. He seemed cooler by the time he ended his temporary stint before. I guess with things going so badly though, people fall back on what's familiar and comfortable to them.

The idea of Rodney teaching at a community college - lordy.

Loved the teamwork between John and holograph Rodney. They just mesh so well.

John gets back, they arrange to get Teyla, but she isn't where she's supposed to be; they're too early. That's crappy. Of course that little thing can't go right for our team. And then, a building falls on them.

Cliffhanger endings. Gotta love them.

Okay, okay, I'd intended to watch this oodles of times, but watched it only twice, first on my computer and then on my TV. If I knew how to vid and could just distill it to ALL of the Rodney and John moments, I'd watch it all day long, I'm sure.

First of all, this is much better than I usually expect from M&M (though, don't worry, I'll tear a strip off of them later for sexism and other inconsistencies).

Did anyone else notice that John didn't even talk to Atlantis or transmit his GDO. He just walked through the active wormhole. Unless Evan had just been speaking to the control room seconds ago, this seems like a ridiculous plot chasm (not just a hole).

Giving credit where credit is due, I loved the way the gateroom looked with the intense orange-gold light changing simply everything. But, oh, John. You think this is a practical jokeThe view from the balcony is stunning. I love the way that sands in the desert are frozen into those hypnotic waves. Usually gorgeous, but not when you're expecting an ocean. Just to emphasize the ( ... )

Oh, I nearly cried when a usually touch-aversive John reached out (voluntarily) to touch Rodney, but his hand sank through Rodney's chest ( ... )

Just a thought about Michael - Wraith society is pretty much all drones and males with a few queens here and there leading hives. Michael, without a queen, may just be replicating what he knows.

I do like this episode a great deal, the McSheppiness in particular. :)

But, from a scientific standpoint, cloning = lack of genetic diversity = weakness when compared to biological reproduction as the norm. If Michael were truly a scientist, he would not have disregarded that principle. But, as I've emphasized repeatedly, he was trying to rid himself of the need of any Queen's presence. It could have been a short-term solution but it was his ultimate goal.

John and Rodney encounter a blocked-off passage due to drifting sand. That's a problem. I liked the fact that Rodney blinked out to use his sensors to check out the situation and then blinked back ( ... )
