One more Genficathon announcement

Jul 18, 2011 14:18

Hi again! This is an announcement that I didn't want to make during the period of the fest itself, but now that it's all over and done, I figured it was time to come out and officially announce that this is the last year I'll be running the SGA Genficathon ( Read more... )

Thank you! *hugs back* Oh yes, I will still be around ... just not so much on the SGA side of things as I used to be.

Thank you so much for the time you put into this site. It's been a lot of fun. I really regret that I missed participating in the last year, but this year has sucked so much in so many ways that it just wasn't to be. Unfortunately SGA is still my only real fandom and this is just one more sign that it is on its last leg. I hate watching it die out slowly like a fish gasping for air on the bank. Actually, I feel kind of like that fish. Never mind - sorry about that. Back to thank you for the work you did making this a great and fun site for the past few years!!

Thank you very much! And I'm sorry the last year has been rough for you ... and that the fandom is shrinking. I do think there will always be a fandom for SGA, and I'm sure that some of the people who have wandered out will wander back in again (I wouldn't be surprised if I'm back at some future date). So have hope!

I'm trying. Sorry my "thank you" got so gloomy. My year is spiraling downhill at an ever increasing rate and I was having a pity party moment. Bucking up now!! I think I need to go watch an SGA episode to cheer me up.

Oh, no no, I didn't think you were too gloomy at all! *hugs*

An SGA episode sounds like just the thing for cheering-up purposes. :)

Thank you for four great years!

I was actually wondering if the AO3 fest model might not be a little easier. I'd be willing to try something like that if no one else decides to run this or a similar gen fest. What are your thoughts on folks testing the waters or polling in this comm to see what options would draw interest? (I don't want to spam the comm or anything like that, and I can always try to start a discussion on my journal or at the noticeboard if you want to avoid clutter here.)

I would be totally fine with that! :) Go right ahead.

I think that the AO3 fest model would be WAY easier, from all I've heard about it. Last year (or maybe the year before) I ran a poll about that and the general consensus was to keep it here at LJ, and I went with that because the fest started on LJ, so it didn't seem fair to shut out people who would be excluded by moving it to AO3. But if the Genficathon did continue in some form, or if a new one was launched, I would highly recommend running it on AO3 rather than on LJ. One of the big factors that's led to me having less interest in running the fest from year to year is the amount of fiddly work involved with collecting the stories and posting them anonymously. The fact that AO3 does all that for you automatically -- *and* leaves the authors with control over their stories -- seems like a huge plus to me.

Well I'm glad I came into the fandom in time to enjoy this fest! I hope someone else picks it up, but in any case thank you!

Thanks for organising it each year! And hopefully someone picks it up and runs it with the AO3 model, 'cos this one is really time-intensive for you and I know it's been painstaking to run.

Thanks for all the work!

Thank you so much! And thank you for participating every year, as well. :)

Yeah, the AO3 model looks like a whole lot less work than doing it all by hand. I'd love to see the Genficathon continue in some form (or a successor to it).
