Title: The End Of Innocence Author: tielan Prompt: Endings and beginnings (bonus fic) Word Count: 1300 Rating: PG-13 Warnings/Spoilers: None. Summary: Teyla loses her innocence, but gains something else in its place: hope.
Chilling! And Teyla's dedication to do something about the horrible things she's seen, instead of just giving up, even as a child - it's a powerful moment.
I always wonder just when the switch flipped to make Teyla different from her own people. They're willing to keep doing what they've always been doing; she's not. And I find myself wondering why.
Lovely Teyla. A frightening and real visualizing of her first time, and her final determination, training for the future she doesn't yet realize, is wonderful.
I like the idea that there's something more in her background, in her history, that angles her towards the fight, rather than just being willing to stay with her people.
The next morning, she goes to Karlen and asks for lessons in the stick-fighting for which he is famed. While the other children watch and whisper and try their hand at it, only to give up, Teyla trains herself in this discipline.
Excellent paragraph -- it says so much so succintly.
