That's incredibly powerful with very few words.

but a washed-up pilot prone to dramatic leaps of faith isn't what they need to keep her safe. Not here, not now.

And that's why EATG's ending sucked balls.

I've very glad you liked it! The ending of the series struck me as heavily bittersweet, and my Muses are a rather morose lot recently. :P

In theory, I shall write something silly about Imaginary Gate Team 5 in order to balance things, but the Muses are being stubborn. *eyes Muses warily*

Yes. This. The ending felt like such a punch in the gut to me, because there's nothing for John to do now. If Atlantis stays on Earth he's lost his command.

And the thing is it's not that he's bad at command... he's just not good at 'sit in orbit and wait for something to threaten Earth' command. Both of them belong back in Pegasus, but I just can't see the SGC letting them go. *sighs*
