Teyla's worried about her new family. The past few episodes haven't exactly been easy on them. (I think I'm going to have to write a revised version of this and make that clearer, if it isn't coming through.)

I'm always impressed by how you're able to respond to the challenges with these glimpses into your constructed continuity.

Um, actually, it wasn't. (I'm not that irreverent.) He is thinking of the same story other-him was thinking of in Ultimate Weapon, if that helps.
I wasn't entirely sure whether this would work as a story -- I keep thinking that I'm bouncing around trying to say "and look, and look, a ginormous ear, isn't this so cool?" and losing all the people who want to know what a flat fan has to do with the snake and the tree trunks because I'm the only one who knows I'm putting together an elephant.

Thank you!
(Although, honestly, I feel a bit unworthy -- this challenge spawned all sorts of ideas that refused to complete themselves in time aarrghhh, and then there was one earlier where I said "Hindbrain, are there any Zophonisbeion ideas that fit this challenge?" and my hindbrain said "Oh, sure, I have a plotbunny about Daniel teaching Sha`re to say 'l'," which left me to Cough ( ... )

Ooh. Now I want to hear that story. I love how culturally rich your AU is--there's such a weight of history and legend present in even little snippets like this one.
"I don't seem to remember you doing much accepting -- " Elizabeth began.
"That was different." Sheppard straightened in his chair. "Afterwards is afterwards, and during is during -- "
I love this view of John--that he knows his actions have consequences, and does them anyway, because he believes they have to be done, and then accepts whatever happens after.
Actually, I just sort of love everything about this. *loves*

I sort of know some of how the version he heard when he was little is different from the eleven zillion other versions out there, but not all of it. (On the other hand, feel free to run out and read one of the other versions -- it's a great story, and it isn't as long as the one about the five brothers.)

Thank you!
(I cheat, obviously.) ^_^
//I love this view of John--that he knows his actions have consequences, and does them anyway, because he believes they have to be done, and then accepts whatever happens after.//This has sort of been central to my view of the character for a long time. (And it seemed to me back in "Hot Zone" that he and Elizabeth were having two different arguments, almost -- she was angry at him for running off and doing his own thing, and he wanted to know what she thought she'd been doing hamstringing him when he was in the middle of something.) Part of the whole situation seems to me to be that he's used to being the guy ( ... )
