Brilliant! Just...weirdly believable for the Ancients to actually do, so the twist is neat. Great story.

Originally, I planned for it to be much more obviously a joke on Rodney, but then *I* got to believing it, too. So now John's line reads more like: "don't go waking the linguists up to argue them out of this Rodney; know when you're beat." Glad you liked it!

Very cool--I've always wondered about the linguistics department. You'd think there'd need to be one, but it's never visible in the show. But this is exactly the relationship I would imagine exists between them and Rodney.

Afterwards, he goes back to his lab and spends a few hours deriving all of the laws of wave mechanics, just to calm his mind.

So very Rodney.

Just one note: Miko calls John "Colonel" at the beginning, but Rodney calls him "Major" at the end. It's a little unclear which he's supposed to be.

oh, good catch! I changed my mind in the middle of writing it, decided to set things during season one, and did not adjust titles accordingly.
