I grew up on the Pern books and I was grinning ALL THE WAY through this!

That is just LOVELY!!!

Hee, yeah, I figure Pern is like Star Wars or something, most fangirls probably have some inkling of it whether or not they've read it. Glad you liked the fic!

Awesome! I love the idea of Sheppard as a bronze dragon and Rodney as the reluctant chosen. You nailed the voices here. Love it.

Omigod, lovely! What is it about this fandom that makes the characters so easy to transplant into other settings? I read all the Pern books (well, all that were out at the time, anyway) when I was a teenager and this is just perfect. Rodney is wonderfully himself -- with piles of hides and more than one slate, and his determination to prove the true nature of the satellites; gorgeous! And "Shepparth" (*dies*) smacking him in the back of the head with a winglet. So impossibly cute.

p.s. And I *don't* think this one's been done before, at least not that I've seen. There is at least one Temeraire fusion floating around (in the one I saw, Rodney was the dragon and John was his pilot) but this the first time I've ever seen one for Pern! And I still can't get over the cuteness; even with the circumstances so different, you got so much warmth in there.

Thanks, glad to know it! I always think someone must have had my ideas first, so it's reassuring to know I'm not always reinventing the wheel. It occurred to me that John=Pilot=rider made some sense, but...he would enjoy being a dragon so, and Rodney is so not a rider personality that I had to go with it. Because in any 'verse, it's all about making Rodney miserable XD (it amuses me to hear there's a Temeraire fusion, though, considering I'm about 80% sure those books started out as a fusion themselves XD)

I think the books definitely read best as a teenager...don't know how I'd feel about them now, really, but they were much beloved then, and so remain now in my memories.

I don't know why SGA is so suited to AUs! I never read them usually, but in this fandom...I suspect it's because the char voices - especially Rodney's - are so very distinctive that no matter where you put them (or what skins you put them in!) they're still emphatically recognizable.

Not to mention, Sheppard loves being a dragon. Wait 'til he learns how to fly XD
