I really like how you've portrayed Radek here. We know only a little about his background, from a canon point of view anyway. You've filled in many places with plausible--actually, probable--events, from his parents' dissident background to Radek's own flaunting of the rules with his legendary still. It all fits together seamlessly. Very well written. /sigh/ So little was made of Carson's passing on the show that many of us were left to write episode tags just to cope with our grief. I would have loved to have seen Radek's reaction and believe the scene that you've written would have been an unforgettable addition to the show.

Apparently that was all down to scheduling. They hadn't determined the order the episodes were going to be aired in yet, so they couldn't risk referring to Carsons death. You know what I call that? Bad scheduling.
*blushes* Thank you! I had a little help and inspiration for Radek's background - one of the mcroscopy techs I used to work with fled Romania with her husband before the Wall came down and the Iron Curtain lifted. Although life in Czechoslovakia probably wasn't as extreme as some of the stories she told, I'm sure there were some commonalities and I can't quite see Zelenka as a card-carrying Party member.
Ooh. Very cool. I wish the writers would address that Radek grew up under Soviet rule once (though I suppose they dropped us a nice little hint in Tabula).
Oh, wow. Very powerful and very sad. They only showed us hints in the show, but it seemed like Carson and Radek were pretty good friends. Of course this would hit him hard.
Thank you! Well, I think that all the members of the original expedition are probably pretty close and there are all those scenes in 'Allies,' and they've also probably bonded as targets of McKay's snark...
