Oh, how sad for Steven. This was just lovely, you caught them so well, and I love the resignation at the end, his admitting to himself that maybe peace was better after all. Very, very nicely done.
thank you, dear! I appreciate the fb. I hated that in the show, it seemed that they just dropped Caldwell without any explanation. Just "oh, here is the new ship, the Apollo. And here is the new commander, Col. Ellis (and, for a change, he's bumping horns with Weir instead of Sheppard!)"
I liked this a lot, which is an accomplishment because Caldwell just completely rubs me the wrong way. At the end of this, though, I felt badly for him.
cool! I'm glad I was able to sway you! I always really liked Caldwell--maybe because he could be a bit of an asshole, and disagree with Our Team, but at the same time he was solidly on their side, always backing them up, one of them. I liked him the same way I liked Sgt. Bates--as a member of the Loyal Opposition, someone who doesn't necessarily agree with what you're doing or the way you're doing it, but who is far from an enemy...
I think I wouldn't have the same dislike if I didn't love the main characters so much. The instant slavish devotion to McKay and Sheppard upon seeing the show creates a cognitive dissonance when outsiders challenge them...
"What!! How dare you not agree with The Genius and The Pretty!? You are evil and must be destroyed."
Well, maybe not that bad, but something along those lines anyway. :grins:
