Seriously -- I feel that if they wanted to do something different with Ford, they should have promoted him and given him his own team (possibly one made from the pieces of two other gate-teams, who'd trust another first-year-er more than some guy who came in on the Daedalus). If they wanted it to be grimmer and edgier, they could have had his team pretend to have been kicked out of Atlantis, and go around making contact with people who, for one reason or another, weren't Atlantean allies but had something to offer (e.g. the Genii). That would have been fun.

Hmm, yeah. Promotion would have been good. It would be cool to see someone other than USAF calling the shots. Also ... it would be really good if Stargate stopped putting their black characters on performance-enhancing drugs. *face of uneasiness*
