That was a splendid borrowing of The Clicking of Cuthbert. Serious points for Doc Smith.

The only thing I regret is that I couldn't figure out a way to fit the playing-golf-with-Lenin-and-Trotsky joke at the end in.

And I first read Gray Lensman in high school and fell in love, so... ^_^

Y'know, I've heard that particular very wrong sentiment before - that science fiction is a waste of time and effort. To which my reply is, "Did you know that the inventors of the cell phone were inspired by the communicators on 'Star Trek'?"

I love the idea that McKay and Zelenka met like this, and bonded over a shared love of science fiction.

Oh, that's an excellent reply.

(Mine tends to be something along the lines of "You did know Dumas was the Andre Norton of his day, right?" which can easily be adapted to the defense of all sorts of genre fiction. But that tends to be geared more towards those people who have neither pipes nor philosophy capable of holding water than those who fail to see the use of fiction, so...)

Plus, I think the idea of a computer-generated multiple-space/aircraft interaction simulator can be traced to the Z9M9Z. ^_^

And if McKay and Zelenka didn't meet like this, they should have. ^_^
