I really like the idea that John wanted to choose the option that was best for Rodney, and that he was willing to take the pain of the knives, if that was what Rodney wanted.

I love the whole feel of this, how close they are and how much John obviously cares, both as a friend, and then something more. If I had to pick a favorite line, I think it would be:

He slides his gaze away when Rodney starts floundering at his pants, the sight hurting something weird in his throat.

The painting and the sex are very hot, and I especially like the moment when John can't take the hesitancy anymore and shoves on in.

The scene in John's bedroom hits a lot of my kinks, with John misunderstanding and feeling hurt and defensive, and Rodney trying to play it cool, in case his feelings aren't reciprocated.

In short: LOVE this to pieces!

One of the interesting traits I see in John is that he is such an absolute stubborn MULE when he wants something, but often what he 'wants' is to save and help other people.

I'm glad you mentioned John's impatience; I think it's a big part of his relationship with Rodney in general. And also, I didn't want him to be the ever-caring nursemaid, b/c 1) he's a horny GUY, and 2) he honestly doesn't know this piece of Rodney's background.

Thanks, that's a really good description of that scene. I'm glad it came through for you. I was trying to pack in a lot of emotion w/o the characters actually realizing some of it themselves, which was difficult (and drove my beta, dracostella, crazy as well, I'm sure).
