David Parrish scrambled about on his hands and knees, he pushed his knees into the ground heaving back, his arms strained before a cry of release caused him to whip back the long stemmed plant he was pulling. It flew into the air and whacked into a face, a very human, very bemused face. “Oh Major.” He replied jumping to his feet and cradling the plant, “is it ok?” He asked, “stronger than I thought…fascinating.” He answered himself, “the tensile strength in these roots… Major, you have some soil on your face.” He mentioned distractedly before he wandered back to the other plants to work on them.

Lorne blinked and pulled out a wipe from his pocket to clean himself up. He had taken to carrying them around whenever his team had to escort any of the scientists; it would inevitably get messy somewhere along the line. Dr. Parrish was the worst culprit, he doubted he would ever be clean again whilst this particular botanist was on Atlantis.

He glanced around, knowing the scientist would be quite happy for the next couple of hours. Suddenly there was a scream and Major Lorne did a quick sweep of the area, as he ran to Parrish’s last known location. He was met by bright bouncing eyes. A familiar smile crossed his face as he studied the upside down doctor. “How did you manage this?” He asked pulling out his knife and working on the vines as Parrish dangled from the tree.

David flushed embarrassed, “I climbed the tree, that petal formation on the blossoms are utterly unique and…well I fell.” He replied with an oomph as the major slowly lowered him to the ground. He was helped up, Lorne’s hand warm in his. “Thank you Nick.” Parrish replied quietly, watching him for a long moment before he smiled and kissed him lightly with confident familiarity. Lorne smiled against it, “you’re a walking disaster, you know that?”

“I know.” He replied with a grin, “Can you help me carry these?” He asked
Lorne nodded as Parrish pulled his hand away, “good because we have a lot to get through and take back.”

“Great.” Lorne muttered with a roll of his eyes. He reached up and cleaned away the dirt on David’s forehead before he leaned in and kissed him deeply. “Off you go. Quicker we get done, the quicker we can get your plants home.”

Lorne was led into his quarters; David pulled off Lorne’s jacket and dropped it on the chair alongside his labcoat. Lorne fell onto the bed and pulled David’s feet onto his lap. He pulled off the shoes and socks dropping them down before pushing David flat onto the bed sheet complete with military standard hospital corners. David pulled Lorne’s t-shirt over his head fussing over the slight bruises, one thing he really didn’t like about his boyfriends job. He kissed and licked each one causing Lorne to sigh in contentment; this was precisely the reason that Lorne loved his job.

There was a knock at the door, David opened it and stood in the doorway bleary eyed in his boxers, “Did you forget something Nick?” He whispered with a smile when he saw it was Lorne.

Hi,” his partner replied with an apologetic smile sliding past him, into the room, “I think I left my radio here this morning did you see it?” He asked rifling through the plants, which littered the Major’s room.

“Try the shelf above the aspidistra.” Parrish replied, sitting back on the bed and watching him.

“Aspidistra that’s….” He looked at David helplessly, causing Parrish to laugh in amusement. “The one in the corner,” he replied. Parrish’s plants seemed to have overtaken his room over the last couple of months to the point where it was starting to look like the set of Gorillas in the mist.

“I will get them right one day.” Lorne announced smiling when he found it, he turned and ran to Parrish, “thanks.” He whispered kissing him swiftly, “I’m late, and I’ll see you tonight.”

“Good luck,” Parrish whispered before climbing under the covers to enjoy his day off with a lie in.

Strong arms wrapped around David’s shoulders as the scientist stood in front of a potting tray, fingers caked in mud. He leaned back tipping his head to take a long leisurely kiss in the empty lab. “You’re back early,” he observed.

“I thought it was your day off.”

“It was, it is. I just needed to do a few things that’s all.”

Lorne chuckled, “relaxation didn’t seem to occur to most of the scientists on Atlantis.”

He glanced over, “isn’t that the vine I cut you free of?” He asked.

Parrish beamed at him proudly. “You recognised it,” he replied.

Lorne smiled smugly, “yes well even if it is a little out of my skill set, you aren’t.” He laughed, “You upside down is just one of the funniest things I’ve seen.” He rested his head against David’s as he became more sombre. “How’s the ankle?” He asked.

“It’s a little tender but Doctor Beckett said as long as I rest it I should be fine in a few days. Parrish blushed and grabbed the cloth from the side, cleaning off his fingers. The major was still pressed up behind him, “Then let’s rest it, take the rest your day off, out of the lab, your foot would appreciate it.” He chuckled pulling the botanist out of the room.

Parrish flushed “My bed or yours?”

David sat on the balcony, the cool breeze brushing past him into the room. Nick lay asleep face down on the bed, the coverlet wrapped around his leg giving Parrish a perfect view of his rear. He twirled the little plant pot in his hand, it contained a cutting Nick had taken from the planet for him. The mission had gone well apparently and he’d seen this plant and thought to surprise him with it. David smiled slightly at the memory. He knew he must have babbled incoherently when he had seen it, the indulgent smile in his partner’s eyes told him that well enough. He couldn’t help it, plants were so wonderous to be able to see all this variety of specimens never studied before, it made his head spin giddily, just like the sight of a highly trained Air force major in his bed.

David smiled, stood up and stretched, before he walked back in. He set the plant pot onto the shelf and walked to the bed. He untangled the quilt and spread it out. He slid under it resting his arm over Nicholas Lorne’s back, he nestled his head in the crook of Nick’s neck, a declaration whispered into warm skin before David slumbered too.
