Valentine's Day
"It's days like today that make me wish we were back in Pegasus. I mean, even more than usual."
John's team mates all turned to him with inquiring eyes, and he shrugged, waving his hand around the decorated mess hall. "Look at it," he said. "It's sickening. And wouldn't happen if we were in a galaxy far, far away. They wouldn't have been able to get there hands on so much pink construction paper."
Rodney and Ronon ignored him and went back to their food, but Teyla chuckled and nodded. "Yes, it does seem rather..."
"Over the top?" John supplied.
"Yes." Teyla shook her head. "I do appreciate the sentiment behind Valentine's Day, but I find the methods for expressing admiration rather... garish."
"Agreed," said John. "Heart-shaped candies and bouquets of pink roses... it's been done to death."
Ronon looked up then, and glared at Rodney. "You told me I should get roses," he said accusingly.
Rodney glared right back at him. "And I was right," he said. "Don't listen to him, he's just grouchy because he doesn't have a Valentine."
"Hey!" John said indignantly, before Teyla changed the subject.
Thing was, when he happened to round a corner three hours later and catch sight of Kanaan presenting Teyla with a bouquet of red and white flowers, he kind of felt that maybe Rodney had been right.
