Beta for gen/preslash story evanescentient June 22 2009, 20:22:39 UTC
Hi! I'm looking for a beta for a gen/preslash fic, main characters Sheppard and Lorne. I'm looking mainly for a "sanity check" and comments on character speak, canon/logic and immersion (descriptions, dialogue etc.). Have written before but this is my first SGA concoction... About 6 pages/3300 words. No hurry! Hope you can help!

I'd be happy to. Please send the story or a link to it (whichever you prefer) to my user @livejournal.com; that'll redirect to my private email, so responses will come from a Comcast address. If you have any preferences regarding text markup, let me know; I typically use Word97 (!) and inline comments (set off by square brackets) unless otherwise instructed.

I'm not saying no, but I should ask whether you've tried anyone else in the comm for a possibly better fit. Going by the current status list, beahorgana, enviropony, kimberlyfdr (no WIPs), rilestar, and scifijunkie are all green and sound as if they might be better fits. I don't object to explicit sex scenes, but I have a bad habit of skimming them even when I'm trying to read closely, so I prefer to recommend folks with more liking for them ( ... )

Well, I'm not myself a medical professional; I work with hospital laboratory software and have a nurse for a mother, so I have resources for a fair amount of medical content but not for more esoteric or specialized issues. If you think that's sufficient, sure -- especially if you're flexible with timeframes. (heh) I've been enjoying the series so far. I tend to do the full-bore thing when I'm beta-editing -- I try to warn folks because it can look pretty alarming and it's easy to forget that everything is only suggestions -- so if you want me to avoid doing that and stick only to certain content or review types, you should emphasize that.

You can reach me at my username @livejournal.com; that forwards to my real address, which will give you responses from a Comcast address. Please also indicate what edit method you prefer -- I'm currently using "track changes" in MS Word 2007 but can use other methods (including bracketed notes in plaintext).

I'm probably getting pretty yellow here -- I'm halfway through a big bang and have a virtual season episode next in queue, as well as a new WIP incoming, and I'm slower than I anticipated. Given that, and considering you're heading for explicit sex, you might be better off checking with one of the folks I suggested to mific in an earlier comment thread in this post. That's not a no, just a recommendation. If you still specifically want me, you can drop me a note at my username @livejournal.com.

Hello,
would you be interested/available to help me with a story? It´s only about 700 words, but I´d like you to be as "mean" as possible. Downside: it´s a side story to a 88,000 words fic you´d need to know (although I´m quite sure that you already read it, and if not, you should: fantasy AU, very mild slash). I already sent it to one beta about three weeks ago, but I haven´t heard back from her (?) since; it would be wonderful if I could get it back this or next week.

Absolutely! If I haven't read the main story referenced, I'll probably need into the weekend to knock that off first; but otherwise, sure, send it along and give me a day or two. (700 should be quick but I don't want to overpromise.) I generally work in MSWord using "track changes" or highlighting; let me know what you most prefer. You can send to my username @ livejournal.com; replies will come from a Comcast address. Looking forward to it!
