Title: Picture Proof
Pairing: John/Nancy
Rating: G
Summary: Some mementos are worth holding onto.

John had kept the picture. Despite everything that came after, they'd been happy then, and the memory was worth preserving.

They'd gotten married on a beach on Kauai just before John's first deployment. They'd found a quiet little stretch of beach where there had just been the two of them, an ordained minister, and a retired couple from Oregon who'd volunteered to be their witnesses. They'd kept it simple, John in his light summer suit, no tie, with the collar of his shirt loosened, and Nancy looking vibrant in her white sundress. Even for Hawaii, it had been ridiculously idyllic.

He remembered making vows of love and fidelity, grinning like an idiot at Nance when she promised the same, and then finally slipping the ring on her finger.

When the minister, a jovial middle-aged woman, had said that it was time to kiss the bride, Nancy had thrown her arms around his shoulders and taken his mouth with her lips smiling against his, her improvised wedding bouquet dangling against his back. John's hands had moved automatically to her waist and he'd returned her kiss with all the love and affection he felt for her, overwhelmed with how breathtakingly happy he was.

It was then that Mrs Olderman had snapped the picture, forever capturing their first kiss as husband and wife on film.

Their marriage was over now, but he'd kept the picture.
